When you are a Kenyan citizen, you are issued with a Kenyan passport that allows you to freely travel to and from the country. To do this, you must have an E-Passport as well as your old passport. The E-Passport is an electronic version of your passport which will be stored in the government’s database. It has many benefits over the old paper version. An E-Passport does not require any extra document other than your original passport when traveling outside of Kenya, and it is more secure than the old one because it cannot be copied easily.
However, there is one downside to having an E-Passport: You need to change from your old passport to the new one before traveling outside of Kenya again. But how do you go about doing that? Keep reading this blog for details…

How to Change From an Old Kenyan Passport to New E-Passport
You need to go to Nyali Immigration for this process. You will need a Kenyan passport, your E-Passport, and the original of your old Kenyan passport. You will also need the receipt of when you paid for the E-Passport and a photocopy of your old Kenyan passport’s front and back side.
At Nyali Immigration, they will give you an application form that needs to be filled out in order to change your passport details. The old Kenyan passport must be surrendered before receiving a new one at this point. When filling in the application form, it is important that you put one’s name as it appears on the old Kenyan passport and not what is on the new one or any name other than what is on the new one.
You can also use this form to apply for dual citizenship (for instance if you are married). At this point, you will need to pay an application fee which varies depending on how many passports you want and whether or not you have any dependants listed as dependents in your old Kenyan passport. If you want a new E-Passport with your current name but with different number, then it costs 20000 KES instead of 5000 KES since it is two passports with different number. If there are no changes in name or number, then it costs 20000 KES regardless of how many passports are requested because it is just one application where both passports will have same number even though they have different
Requirements for a Change in Kenyan Passport
To change from a paper Kenyan passport to an E-Passport, you must have both the old and new passports. You will also need to provide your original Kenyan passport number in order for the change to take place. You will also need a valid Kenyan ID card, because it is required to have one when applying for a change of citizenship or nationality. This is necessary because the process of changing from paper to E-Passport involves having Kenya’s Interior Ministry cancel your old passport and issuing a new one with the new information on it.
However, if you are going to apply for an E-Passport online, make sure that you have all of these requirements before starting the application process. If not, you may be unable to register successfully.
Get your old passport to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs
1. Go to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and hand-in your old passport.
2. Take a queue number and wait patiently.
3. Get a new e-passport.
4. Receive your old passport back that you had handed in to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs
Get your new E-Passport from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs
The first step to changing from your old passport to an E-Passport is to visit the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Get a letter confirming your travel plans, so they can start the process of replacing your old passport with an E-Passport. You will need to go there in person and present two copies of your Kenyan passport and other supporting documents (like birth certificate, ID card, etc). Make sure that you have the right documents because some are mandatory. If you don’t have all the required documents, it is possible that they will not be able to replace your old passport and you will be required to come back later when you do have them all.
Once you are done at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, they will send a letter confirming the change from their database with all the necessary information for getting an E-Passport. With this letter, you will now be able to get a new E-Passport online at any Kenyan Embassy or Consulate.
How to Replace a Lost or Stolen E-Passport
When you lose or have your old E-Passport stolen, it can be replaced by going to the nearest Kenyan embassy. They will check to see if your passport is still valid and replace it with a new one that is more secure than the old one. However, you cannot do this if you are outside of Kenya, as there are not any embassy locations in other countries.
In general, it takes about 4 days for a replacement passport to be made and delivered to the client. For some people who have urgent cases, they may be able to get their replacement on the same day as long as they go in person.
